Dash's Legacy
Our story with our dear friend Dash began 13 years ago when we met him in one of the darkest neighborhood alleyways in Zona Norte. Our friendship evolved over the years as he brought his son Daniel and his daughter Brisslet to our programs. Dash’s life began to change as he found purpose and healing through times of worship and fellowship. His kids began to choose to do right as Dash exposed them to a healthy community where boundaries and growth are always encouraged. He became a father to many children near his home who were not receiving proper care and embraced them as his own. Throughout our years with Dash, his health was always in a delicate state. Diabetes was always a part of his story and unfortunately took his life in January of this year. Since we lost our dear friend Dash, life has not been the same in many ways. But God - through this trial is making Himself known to Daniel, Brisslet and their mother, Brissa, who was always a distant figure in our journey with this family. Before Dash passed, Brissa made a promise to him that she would commit to continue bringing her kids to Hope Zone. The week after Dash passed, she made her appearance at the Hope Zone property for the very first time. What Brissa did not expect was to be embraced and to find purpose and belonging herself. Brissa is encountering God in a real way since Dash’s passing. Despite losing his father, Daniel’s passion for the Lord continued to grow. His desire to please the Lord and honor his dad was evident as he began taking steps to pursuing a Discipleship Training School with YWAM Pachuca, Mexico. His journey continues as he pursues God’s heart for himself and for the world. We are witnessing God making beauty from ashes and is using Dash’s legacy to impact many. At his funeral, many heard the Gospel and we trust that many seeds were planted. We know that one day we will be together with our dear friend Dash as he made God his Lord and Savior during his time here. Dash’s legacy lives on and because of his obedience to the Lord, generational impact is taking place in his own family and continues to encourage other families to build their own legacy.
