Esperanza Property
Each week kids (4- 16 years old) meet in specialized teams (art, martial arts, photography, science, music, etc.), and learn new skills to help them grow and gain self-confidence. Every week the Hope Zone staff meet with the teenagers (13 and up) in order to engage with them on a deeper level as they navigate the volatile situations in their community.
Past, Present, & Future
For several years Giezi and Amanda had been dreaming about Hope Zone having its own property, and in 2017 shortly after forming their first Advisory Board, a vacant lot in Zona Norte became available for sale. Giezi, Amanda, and the Board helped to create a fundraising page. In 30 days $89,420 was raised, and with the help of YWAM staffers and local construction crews, the lot has been transformed into a fun-filled and family friendly space with a Lego wall, soccer tennis, Nerf gun zone, pool tables, and a space just for the moms. Hope Zone now operates from this property full-time. The dream for the future is to build a permanent facility that will get the families out of the elements and have more specific spaces for each person who takes part in the programs. In the interim the property is serving as a beacon of light in Zona Norte. Since the property had become functional we have hosted 100s of programs, as well as a joyous Christmas party and provided a safe place for the neighborhood to have a Halloween party.
